Medical Emergencies: Your Responsibilities

CPR, Medical Emergencies, and AED training

Medical emergencies training is an asset for all dental and healthcare team members, and a legal and regulatory requirement in dental practices. Your patients need to know that they will be in safe hands in your practice, and your team need to know that they can deal with medical emergencies with confidence.

Rosette CPD medical emergencies training is bespoke, certified training delivered by a specialist, experienced healthcare training professional.

Completing this course meets General Dental Council (GDC) requirements and the recommendations for resuscitation training in primary dental care settings from the Resuscitation Council (UK). All Rosette CPD courses provide verified certification that demonstrates your practice’s commitment to safety.

Medical Emergencies: Your Responsibilities

It is a legal requirement for GDC-registered dentists and dental professionals to complete training in medical emergencies as part of their mandated programme of continued professional development (CPD).

To maintain a GDC registration - without which no dentist or dental professional (dental nurse, dental technician, dental therapist, dental hygienist, orthodontic therapist or clinical dental technician) may work in the UK - you must comply with CPD requirements.

From 2018, the GDC’s Enhanced CPD programme further defines the training that must be completed in each dental professional’s five-year CPD cycle.

Development Outcome C under the scheme is: “Maintenance and development of knowledge and skill within your field(s) of practice.”

This outcome includes medical emergencies and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training.

The GDC says that all dental professionals must complete at least 10 hours of medical emergencies training, and recommends that at least two hours of this training is carried out every year.

The Resuscitation Council (UK) has set quality standards for CPR practice and training in primary care, including in primary care dental settings.
